# Original airdate: January 14, 2005 # Production Number: 101 # Writer: Ronald D. Moore # Director: Michael Rymer # Nielsen Rating: unknown... wiki's down # No podcast available Staring Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, Katee Sackhoff, Jamie Bamber, James Callis, Tricia Helfer, Grace Park, Michael Hogan, Aaron Douglas, Tahmoh Penikett, Kandyse McClure, Paul Campbell, Alessandro Juliani, Sam Witwer Fleet Population ~47,973 This week, I took the whiteboard population from the end of the episode. Our first shot of the whiteboard has an inaccurate (according to Billy) count of 50,298. Wikipeadia takes the 'corrected' population given around 14mins in: 49,998. BattlestarWiki is down right now but I'm sure they have the Wikipeadia headcount. Synopsis After leaving Ragnor station and jumping beyond the Red Line, the rag-tag fleet along with the recommissioned Battlestar Galactica have been relentlessly stalked by the Cylon. After nearly a week of FTL jumps, Cylon Basestars always reappear at their new coordinates exactly 33 minutes later. Stranded on Cylon-occupied Caprica, Lt. Karl "Helo" Agathon is managing to survive despite being hunted by the Cylon and the threat of nuclear fallout. After being captured by a Six model and a Centurion, Helo is 'rescued' by an Eight model who he thinks is Lt. Sharon "Boomer" Valerii; the Raptor pilot who left him behind on Caprica during the Cylon invasion. Back in the fleet, a civilian ship, the Olympic Carrier with more than 1300 passengers, is mistakenly left behind during a fleet-wide jump. Assuming the ship was destroyed by the Cylon, Galactica's fleet starts preparing for the next jump. After the 33min interval passes without a sign of attack, command decides it's safe enough to stay where they are and gives the crew a much needed break; assigning a Raptor and two Vipers to fly cap. Three hours later, the Olympic Carrier jumps to the location of the fleet. Suspicious of Cylon infiltration, Commander Adama orders the ship not to approach. When the Olympic Carrier ignores the order and stops responding to radio calls, Adama has the rest of his fleet jump to safety. When the Olympic Carrier sets off a radiological alarm, the President and Commander Adama order Capt. Lee "Apollo" Adama and Lt. Kara "Starbuck" Thrace to destroy the ship. After hesitating to fire on the civilian cruise liner, they realize that they have no choice and proceed. The episode ends with the first post-attack birth. I wonder if they named the kid 'Hope.' ...regardless of gender. Memorial This episode introduces us to a few of the on-board tributes: ![]() ![]() ![]() The black and white "Keep us safe. Never forget. Remember. To fallen friends." photo taped (and tapped) in the Briefing Room and framed on Colonial One. ![]() ![]() The Wall in The Hall. ...or whatever they call it. Homage 33mins. 1980sec. 1980. Homage? Coincidence? You decide. Random ![]() Without sleep, Cally looks like hell. Speaking of looking haggard, the Vipers have taken quite a beating. Starbuck, being one herself, knew Boomer was a Cylon from the start. Again with the "Are you alive? .:smooch:." biz? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm... Assuming the fleet's location is being communicated on some sort of radio wave (light speed) and ignoring the Cylon's pre-jump prep time... Hmmm. That brings us to... Ok, ok. Fleet jumps, start the clock. Cylon agent starts sending radio waves at certain frequency. The waves travel at the speed of light all the way back to the Cylon fleet still hanging out at the previous coordinates. In 33mins, the waves would travel 368,839,146.06 miles. So, it's safe to assume that a typical 'jump' for a Colonial vessel would be approximately 367 million miles? That's... whew... Uh... close to... four AU. Nearly the distance from the Sun to the thin side of the asteroid belt behind Mars. That distance in a moment. Pff! Sure... -------------------- Just a reminder that both schedules have been posted and are pinned to the top [link]. And don't forget to check out "whaa's bullets". The next episode for Accelerated viewers will be E1.02 - Water. The discussion will begin April 6th followed by E1.03 - Bastille Day on April 8th. Casual viewers have a full week to view E1.01 - 33. Their discussion thread will be posted Monday, April 9th. -------------------- ![]() |
