Would'nt it be great if Sci Fi decided to run the series Space 1999 today? I haven't seen the show since I was a kid. Bring back the memories. Besides it's good science fiction. cool.gif

I just purchased the Space 1999 mega set and started going thru them (as well as U.F.O.) and I can't recall seeing some of these episodes from the first season. Somehow, SciFi was better in the 60's and 70's. I have always liked British SciFi like Dr. Who (the original) and U.F.O. and Space 1999 but I also liked movies from the 60's and 70's like Forbidden Planet, Prehistoric Planet, The day the earth stood still, Our Island Earth. Somehow, since the special effects were not as developed, the story HAD to be well written and well acted. The directors relied heavily on the viewers imagination, the actors ability to portray the character and that the story was well written. Today Hollyweird relies almost exclusively on special effects. It would be nice if someone in Hollywood could be creative and not have a political agenda and rely more on acting and writing and have some special effects. I am sure that it would cost less to produce a good SciFi story that relied on those qualities than to have a story that relies on expensive special effects. What do you think? Lets send a message to Hollyweird and to English film studios to try to develope a better SciFi.

That's for sure. One of the things about Space:1999 I loved was the horror it sometimes conveyed. I hated the rubber monsters of season two...But I've always been a monster fan. The "dragon" did indeed, give me nightmares...Great episode.

Sometime in the mid 80s I had a dream that later I thought was the actual episode and the Dragon monster was actually on Alpha! It wasn't till I saw it on sci fi in the early 90s as a rerun again that I knew I had only dreamt a whole episode!

My God I haven't seen this show since it ran on tv back in the early 70s. Another one I vaguely remember watching as a kid was Blake's 7. Would be nice to see Sci-Fi air these programs again.

Of course they won't re-air the series. With each episode running at 52 minutes that would mean fewer commercials and of course, Syfy can't have that. This is why I bought season 1 on Blu-Ray and have watched the first 22 episodes so far.

I purchased the DVD series from A&E last fall. It was so worth it, although I do prefer Season 1 over Season 2; the writing fell off the cliff Season 2.

A little something to bring back memories. The Space: 1999 opening theme:
