Ok, I understand the quality vs quantity arguement and that Ron & David for giving us the best, but see here is the thing, now I am back to no reason to turn on the television at all. Honestly I cant bring myself to sit through idol, lost or sg-1, I just cant. You have to understand that you have created little BSG addicts out here in the world and we just are whining because we need our fix. I'm ok with the concept of an end to the story, but couldnt you just maybe wean us gradually with a spinoff. Spinoffs dont have to meet the same standard as the Golden Ganja Series, and they dont tarnish the original storyline. Yes it means putting out an inferior product, but it means that by the time I realize its over then I dont want it anymore instead of being left with an insatiable craving. or if they wont spin it off, then how about a book series (most of your fan base is literate) or something where we can continue our addictions quietly... please?

QUOTE (Spencerian @ Jun 1 2007, 09:20 AM) *
It's human nature for many, especially the younger of us, to react to news like this.

But I chuckle about it. Everyone knows that nothing lasts forever, that things break, people die, books have an ending, screws fall out. Yet we still grouse, moan and complain when we hear about an end.

A Buddhist tenet: "When we cease expecting, we receive all things."

I'm personally happy that Battlestar will be like Babylon 5 and have a nice ending, maybe a better one.

One can look at things philosophically: The Original Series lasted just 24 episodes. As viewers, we've all had a good time over 3 seasons with a guaranteed fourth. There are other Good Times ahead, but we can't enjoy them until we complete one tale to start another. Caprica is still in development hell, but there's always hope.

As I said, there are those who will take anything I, or Ron say as spin or propaganda. Oh well.
There are clearly those who have had enough discussion with me, to have an inkling as to what kind of person I am. I have developed a relationship with many here over the last, is it TWO years. I try to be honest and forthright. Many can see that.

Your post really gets it, as so many have. The show will end on Ron's terms. No one is making the claim that the ratings are great. The show could get cancelled because of them, at any point. So since Ron has always said he wanted no more than 5 seasons, why run the risk that at some point in the future the plug gets pulled, before Ron has finished the story?
There have always been those who have made the case that Ron is constantly berated and threatened by studio execs bent on cancelling this show. Again, oh well. That has never been the case. SciFi has been incredibly supportive of the show, since as I have said ad nauseum, it has brought much positive attention to the network, attracting higher level talent and a more positive view within the entertainment community. They kinda liked winn ing a Peabody. Silly, I know.
He's happy with the way things are going, Scifi is happy (though they would be happier if it kept going), and Ron thinks the fans will be happy because the story will have an end.
What more can I say?
Have a great day?

You know, since the show is ending, it would be nice if they could give the East Coast folks some sort of BSG event like the folks in L.A. have gotten. I'd like one in Charlottesville, VA, please. Ha ha!

BUT we get to look forward to some throw down frak parties and cons though...look on the bright side of things!

LOL. Sorry. I don't think Caprica is going to happen. I'm not sure, but that's my guess.

I finally finished watching The Sopranos, right before the new seasons. I was completely blown away. It is such an amazing work. There is so much on television these days. TV has undergone such a transformation in the last decade. There is so much to watch. I cannot believe that I am actually BUYING television shows. It's a long way from Golden Girls. (Please, no letters from the hundreds of thousands of Golden Girls fans)
My point is that there is a lot of good quality television out there.
Ron is working on a couple of series ideas, he'll be around for some time.
It's all good.

The only bad thing about the show ending is that many of us have developed an attachment to these characters. They're like our little TV family, and while I appreciate the decision to end the show and support it, I just don't want to say goodbye to these people yet. You know? Is it sad that I feel a connection to imaginary TV characters?

No, we all feel it. Ron, the cast, the crew. Quite a little family has been built, and it will be hard to let go.

Gotta run. Ron's having breakfast with Mary this morning, I have to go to my Mom's...

'Battlestar' burns out next year

Sci Fi Channel drama will end run after fourth season
By JOSEF ADALIAN

Low-rated but critically worshipped Sci Fi Channel drama "Battlestar Galactica" will sign off next year after its fourth season, producers said Thursday.

Move isn't a stunner. Rumors about the show's fate have been swirling for months, and the skein had to fight to get renewed for a fourth season.

Despite some of the best reviews for any show on TV -- and a fiercely loyal fan base -- "Battlestar" is a very expensive show to produce, especially for a cable net. Sci Fi has tried to turn that buzz into bigger ratings, but the show never seemed to break out beyond a core niche.

Sci Fi stuck by the skein, however, because of its status as a signature program for the net.

Exec producers Ronald D. Moore and David Eick issued a joint statement saying it was their decision to end the series.

"This show was always meant to have a beginning, a middle and, finally, an end," producers said. "Over the course of the last year, the story and the characters have been moving strongly toward that end, and we've decided to listen to those internal voices and conclude the show on our own terms."

Producers promised to end the show "with a bang."

Sci Fi exec VP of original programming Mark Stern said the cabler respected Eick and Moore's call.

"We have always known that Ron and David had a plan for 'Galactica,'" he said.

"Battlestar" will begin its fourth season with a two-hour episode in November. It will then return in early 2008 to finish out its 22-episode run.

Cabler hasn't yet said if it plans to move forward with a proposed "Battlestar" prequel series.

For his part, Eick remains busy. He's exec producing NBC's buzzworthy "Bionic Woman" remake and has a slew of other projects in development.

MrsRon, do you think Jake will be The Thing in Ron's remake? It would make a nice homage to Battlestar Galactica. It would be similar to Chief Tyrol and Cally were blown out of the airlock was an excellent homage to 2001: A Space Odyssey scene when Bowman had to reboard Discovery after HAL tried to prevent him from getting back inside the ship. Caprica would have been nice to see onscreen. Perhaps as a theatrical movie?

Since not a few of use are older than your apparent age, I find this somewhat condescending biggrin.gif

I echo the sentiment there's nothing to go back to. FireFly, BSG reimagined, even the last Star Wars, in what it attempted to do, turned the corner in expectations of maturity some viewers now expect of their popular science fiction. The target demographic hasn't really changed at all but maybe in the long term it will.

Battlestar wasn't the only the senator standing over Caesar's body. But it was there with hands bloodied too. Battlestar killed Star Trek.

Well and I thought it was going to be a dreary morning.

AND it wasn't.

The show had lost it's way. It meandered from here to there and back again. I kept thinking just how far did they ever actually go from Crapica.

So it will interesting to see if the show actually ends with a bang or a whimper.

Maybe they'll finally get rid of that grey tone over everything too.
