There are over 40,000 Firefly class transports in the verse and if Mal and the gang had ever run across one, who would you want to see on it?
You are NOT recasting the Serenity with another crew. You are choosing a crew for another ship in hopes of someday meeting up with Serenity for an adventure, a bit of petty thievery, some smuggling, or a party.

Rules:
1. You can't use any of Serenity's current crew members.
2. You'll need at least one of each of these: Captain, Pilot, Mechanic, and Mercenary.
3. Crew must be actors/actresses - no sports or music celebrities.
4. Crew can number no smaller than 4 and no larger than 12.
5. Terrifying Space Monkeys don't count as crew.
6. Name your Shiny new (or old) transport.
7. Be sure to list what each of your crew does and feel free to expound as much as you like - you can include a story arc if you like, but it's not mandatory.

That's it I think. Time to fill your ship!

And here's my crew:

My Firefly, the Destiny, would have an all-star cast of movie greats from the past. Some have passed away and the none are young now. (Showing my age here, but I loved watching these people when I was a little girl.) I would cast them at the age each was in the movie listed beside the name. The movie listed does NOT indicate the character portrayal I would want them to recreate. I see the characterizations as a lot like the crew of the Serenity, except my mechanic is male because I adore Audie Murphy and had to have him on my crew.

Captain: George Peppard (Breakfast at Tiffany's)
Pilot: Jim Hutton (Horizontal Lieutenant)
1st Mate: Paula Prentiss (Horizontal Lieutenant - (usually paired with Hutton because both were very tall)
Mercenary: Van Johnson (Brigadoon)
Mechanic: Audie Murphy (To Hell and Back) - I nearly made him the captain because he was a real-life WWII hero.
Doctor: George Hamilton (Where the Boys Are)
Companion: Audrey Hepburn (Sabrina)
Holy Man: Cary Grant (Charade)
Crazy Psychic: Leslie Caron (Gigi) - I wanted a dancer here because of Summer.

Several of these people worked together on films during their careers, so I'm pretty sure they'd have great chemistry that would come across on the screen in this production as well. And Peppard would get to "love it when a plan comes together" at much younger age.

This crew like that of the Serenity is a bunch of people who don't seem to fit anywhere else, but together they are a family.

Sorry that I don't have much of a story arc for them, but I know I'd love to be a passenger on this ship. And I might be found in Audie's hammock or Van's bunk or Jim's or Cary's or either of the George's. (You know I chose these guys because I thought they were all hot in their day.)

the ship's name is rum runner (i always thought that would be a cool name for a pirate/smuggling ship)

back story- the companion & the crazy psychic are half-sisters & the doctor may or may-not be the crazy psychic's long-lost father.
the 1st mate's parent(s) is/are highly placed in the government. she ran away when she was young. (adopted a new identity) however the holy man suspects who she is.
the captain & mercenary share a secret that keeps them together, even though they don't care for each other's company.
the pilot's wife & kids were killed by a mysterious sickness that may or may-not have been made by the government.
no one knows where the mechanic came from, she showed up one day looking for work. she's very secretive. she's never told the same story twice about her background.

if i was a passenger on this ship i'd be in either the captain's, the pilot's, or the mercenary's bunk

I put one up on UniHD... some were spur of the moment additions that I think would be less than ideal (Bobcat Goldthwait as the crazy psychic... he can do crazy, but can he do psychic?)

But the two that I'd really like to see are Henry Rollins as a mercenary, and Bruce Campbell as the captain (or maybe pilot).

We all get conceptual blinders from time to time. This one is your turn, friend. The point is that we are not crewing Serenity, we are crewing ships that might bump into Serenity and her original crew at some point.
