The Twilight Zone was a masterpiece of storytelling. I've recently been re-watching some of the Outer Limits episodes and realized they have much of the same flavor as the Twilight Zone. Both often have a dark twist at the episode's end, and they always challenge your assumptions.

I'm a fan of both series but i will have to go with the tz because it seemed a bit more real to me unlike tol because it had a sceince fiction feel to me.

I think The Outer Limits is better. The new one, that is. I have watched the old series, but I still think the new series is better. I wish they'd release the other seasons on DVD so I can have the entire series (they only released the first season and a bunch of theme-based collections).

I like the Zone better. And I like the original Outer Limits better than the new one. Although haven't seen it in years.

I have a soft spot in my heart for both shows, I can't pick one over the other.
But I will admit, I like the opening of Outer Limits better than Twilight Zone.

I think comparing the two is apples and oranges time, as the two had different emphasis. I should emphasize that I'm referring to both classic series.

OL went after horror thru the "monster of the week" tale, specifically. TZ was a more encompassing definition of "speculative fiction," a type of fiction that asks the classic "What if?" question and attempts to answer it.

While the two series did offer morality tales, it's their approaches that differ and place them in separate genres.

Now comparing the new TW and OL, there appears to me a good deal of similarity between the two with only a slight difference between the two approaches.

Perhaps we need to establish definition before we proceed with comparison.

Specifically: Since you propose comparison and contrast between them, do you wish to compare the original 1960 series or the 1990 series?

I like both, but The Twilight Zone has more episodes which would be considered timeless. Some of the old Outer Limits episodes are a little dated now.

Many different writers were used on The Outer Limits. TZ had the amazing writing talents of Rod Serling, who wrote so many awesome eps.
