When I posted our TV Throwdown, I asked you guys to email me if a show you loved was missing from the list. Fans of Lifetime's canceled vampire drama, Blood Ties, responded in droves.

If you haven't been watching, here's how fan Tami Z. describes it: "Blood Ties should be on the list of best shows of 2007! It's a great drama about a take-charge woman P.I. that teams up with a sexy vampire to solve 'strange' cases, which also tend to involve her ex-partner/lover cop. The great chemistry among the three main actors (Christina Cox, Kyle Schmid and Dylan Neal) combine with the witty one-liners to make this show completely addicting. You can watch the past 22 episodes on Lifetime's Website. It's a crime drama you can really sink your teeth into! (Pun totally intended.)"

Not that I don't love any show that generates bad puns, but since Blood had been booted from the airwaves, as a dead show it was disqualified from the poll...right?

Not so fast! Because so many of you were so passionate about this series, I did some digging (I've learned never to underestimate a rabid fanbase), and lo and behold, there is hope!

According to Blood Ties executive producer Randy Zalken, even though the show is off the air in the States, all is not lost. When asked about possibly getting the show back into production, he says, "We're hopeful." Why? Because of fans like you. According to Zalken, "We're very happy with the support of the online fans," and he thinks the built-in audience is strong enough to attract new backers to the show.

So, here's the sitch:

Who Can Bring It Back: The series is Canadian, and according to Zalken, "Some of the Canadian broadcasters have said, 'Yeah, we're interested in it; let us know what and when and how.' We're also hopeful that a new home in the U.S. will present itself." The series would likely need financing from both a Canadian and an American network if it were to pull off a second season. Sci Fi? SoapNet? Starz? Which nets do you think should take a look?

Why It Stands Out During the Strike: According to Zalken, "I don't think the strike is going to hurt us, because Canadian writers are not hindered by the U.S. guild rules. So, we can be delivering new shows for the fall... I guess that's more than a lot of producers are saying now." That's good news for fans and Blood Ties staffers, but it's probably less exciting for our local American writer pals, as it could alleviate some of the pressure they're attempting to put on American conglomutainment outlets.

What's at the Ready: Should a vampire-friendly guardian angel with deep pockets happen to fall out of the sky tomorrow, the show could resume production relatively quickly, says Zalken. "The sets are still available—they've not been destroyed—our talent is very eager to come back, and our show runner, Peter Mohan, is standing by."

Post your feelings about Blood Ties below, and with any luck, a curious passerby with a big fat network budget will happen upon the scene and realize exactly how beloved this series is by you, the fans.

But, many people who would absolutely love this great show are completely oblivious to it. It's not exactly like Lifetime has promoted it out in public, and, many who never turn to Lifetime have simply missed out.

Blood Ties needs a massive, grassroots publicity campaign, to get people to watch the episodes online, play the game, and, to spread the show by word of mouth. I'm talking email campaigns, fliers, a blitz. That way, we can prove the value of the show as a property to Lifetime, or, to whoever else might take it on.

the dynamic. Vicky and Henry reminds me of another two. It seems

It's one thing for me to say that the Blood Ties fans are joining forced with us; it's another to actually have them say so, themselves. It'd also be an opportunity to *gently* promote the show. Y'know, I was just scanning the Lifetime Blood Ties MB (nope, not gonna go back there to post). However, one poster did mention a need to have something media-worthy that Blood Ties fans could do, aside from sending annoying junk to the LT mailroom clerks.

Firefly fans have gotten a lot of good press for doing charity work (I did mention that Browncoats love a good cause!). Well, if you're not afraid of needles (as I am, sadly), how about a national Blood Ties Blood Drive?

All you have to do is contact local blood banks, and, find out what they need to have a blood mobile or equivalent at a given site, or, barring that, to host a scheduled blood drive. Then, you start gathering pledges from donors, and, you hit the press with it, hard!

I think you can imagine how that would bring a positive focus on Blood Ties from the public. And, if you can coordinate it in enough places at once, you could even try to get a Guinness record or some such (might want to contact them, first) for biggest mass blood drive. The nice thing is, this is something you can do over and over again. The blood banks will love you, you'll be doing a great public service, and, best of all, it's a positive and VERY distinctive link to Blood Ties.

Just a suggestion.

Ray, I'll be sure to try and spread the word about this Forum. I'll also try to make it clear that if we help other fandoms on TV Vote, that they might also help us. We sure can use all the help we can get. And other BT fans know that, so hopefully they will come here and show support.

Also, your idea for a national blood drive is very good. I actually think that some of the fans might have tried something like that already. But if they did, it was on a much smaller scale and I don't think it worked too well. If we get organized and take it to the press, as you've suggested, then it might turn out very well.

Finally! I managed to register with SciFi -- it was something of an ordeal.

Just wanted to let the Dark Shadows fans (actually, I'm one too, I remember Barnabus Collins, and racing home from school to get there in time for the whole show) that I'm voting for them at TV Vote, and nominating Blood Ties, my new found love.

The significant difference between Moonlight and Blood Ties, which I post here without dropping a massive spoiler, is that, unlike Mick, who hasn't yet lived past a normal human lifespan, Henry is centuries old, and, having gone through all of that, has grown accustomed too, even comfortable with, his condition. So, while Mick could be said to be a "baby" vampire, in terms of his experience with it, Henry has already matured into it, providing a nice contrast between the two characters.

Another significant difference I've noticed is the fact that the vampires on Blood Ties are VERY territorial and don't tolerate other vamps in their area. On Moonlight, vampires live in the same city, some socialize together and have spouses.

Thank you for the article. I am an avid Blood Ties fan, as you can see by my screen name. I have been fighting to get another season of this show along with an every growing fan base. I hope that some people that have either never heard of Blood Ties or have resisted watching it, give in and watch some or all of the episodes. I believe you will find, like many of us have that the show is truely addicting. Without spoiling it for you, the last episode is truely a cliffhanger and one of many reasons we have to have another season. We are left with the nagging , what's next question. So, I hope once you give in and watch the show, you will join us in our fight to get another season of this great show.

I really love Blood Ties and Moonlight! I just got my Blood Ties DVD from the UK and they play great on my region free DVD player! I think there are some differences in the music and in the opening credits, but I don't care I love it all. I've got the iTunes Blood Ties & Moonlight so I can vamp out any time. I'm still spreading the word on Blood Ties, trying to put it in front of as many fans as possible. Oh, and, your sig is GREAT!

As for the Blood Ties Blood Drive, it depends on how organized the fandom can get. It might even be worth joining forces with fans of another show, say, Moonlight, to increase the numerical base (and, the fandom); the press would probably like that, even more! Might even be able to make it a pledge drive challenge!

Last night, this handle shut down. I tried it again, this morning (my regular handle still doesn't work), and, got lucky, so, I don't know how long I'll still be able to post replies, here.

I started a thread on another forum, one the BSG folks have kindly invited Skiffy refugees to use, at:

It will, for now, incorporate Dark Shadows, Moonlight, and, Blood Ties information, until I can wangle a sub-forum for Vampire shows. Please come there, as well, as, that thread is in front of the most active current fandom on Skiffy (BSG is still in production, and, the BSG Colonials are a very busy group), which is fertile ground for boosting Blood Ties.

We can still keep discussion going, here, even if my own posting is spotty, right now. More info about the various efforts to save Blood Ties would be great, especially any news from outside the fandom.

A very good point! Interesting how the different vampire "cultures" presented compare. I'm still not through the Blood Ties episodes, having caught up, in order, finally, with where I has watched, before, and, now moving past "5:55" into eps I haven't seen at all. I'm looking forward to being able to discuss them (on a spoiler-warning thread), once I've seen them all.

It's great to see everyone working together; day before yesterday, Blood Ties got a record 552 votes, and, on a Friday, to boot! Their voters are beginning to take notice, and, asked me to convey their thanks. It takes a while to build a habit, but, I think that they will be increasing their help to the rest of the shows in our little family, as time goes on.

However, yesterday, the vote totals took a nosedive across the board; let's try not to be discouraged, and, instead, look toward tomorrow.

It's been hard to spread the word about this thread, especially on the LT message board, because people post so often. But it's good that you've been writing on the Save Blood Ties page. Hopefully we can get more people onto this board soon. I think it would be nice to have some of the regulars posting here regularly. I personally don't have as much info about the up-to-the-date happenings. So maybe we can get some more people here with some more info. And I'm glad you like my signature. I hope it's catchy enough.

Thanks, EBG141! Yeah, that's why I gave up on the LT MB (well, that, and, certain posters who like to leave their caps lock key on =^[.]~=). But, the more folks who get involved in the voting cooperative, the more definite the results will become, both ways. I was tempted to credit Blood Ties voters with an upswing in totals on several shows, today, but, it's premature to say, since, it could just as easily be the result of a post-slump surge. Still, I think that the Blood Ties voters are starting to make a significant contribution, and, I want to be able to confidently encourage the other voters to reciprocate.
