I believe there's a difference between what the characters know and believe to be Earth, and the planet we're sitting on right now.

Earth in BSG was defined as THAT planet. The 13th tribe were the original cylons, that's all, folks!

The dying leader has to have a wasting disease. I don't think "rust" qualifies.

But seriously... WHO CARES? What bearing does it have on the story, other than that the dying leader will........die. And they're all together, so they're going to reach the promised land, or they won't.

The dying leader could be any person who dies between the time they left Earth and before they set foot on "the promised land" (if they do). Unless the person has a T-shirt that says "I'm the dying leader", how are you supposed to know?

It's Roslin. There's no m night shyamalaning goin on here, because it's a complete non-issue. Roslin already accepted her role as the dying leader, and that was the only significance it had to the plot.
[/quot
on some threads, they are saying that maybe baltar who is the religous leader, is the dying leader. ya gotta admit, he sure isn't looking good lately!! and he is beginning to "rethink" his issues..........

p.s. can i have one of those t-shirts?

How bout a new mascot for the writers...the WTFairy.
It's a little evil version of Tinkerbell that bestows BS plots and twists to the writers.

The wife of one of the authors clearly said that the planet is Earth: the description of the Temple of Aurora matched, so the constellations.

This would make all of them liars. Plus, it would be idiotic.

Citation please. As to the liar charge: yeah, and Starbuck was really dead. Even MrsRon played along. Or, to put it another way:
<sarcasm>
Oh noes! They LIED to us! US! In order not to spoil their show! Those b@stards!
*shakes fist at writers for their perfidious betrayal of all things good and right*
</sarcasm>

As for idiotic: purely a matter of opinion.

Didnt the prophecy actually say the Dying Leader would lead them to their "new home" but would not live to see it? Something to that effect? I dont recall that it said "Earth" specifically. That's simply always been the assumption.

Hand Of God:

QUOTE
Elosha: One of the oracles, in the sacred scrolls. 3,600 years ago, Pythia wrote about the exile and the rebirth of a human race. And the lords anointed a leader to guide the caravan of the heavens to their new homeland and unto the leader they gave a vision of serpents, numbering two and ten, as a sign of things to come.

Roslin: Pythia wrote that?

Elosha: She also wrote that the leader suffered a wasting disease and would not live to enter the new land. But you're not dying... are you?

We've never gotten the exact wording, just Elosha's paraphrase and then Laura's in Kobol's Last Gleaming:
QUOTE
Roslin: The scriptures tell us that a dying leader led humanity to the promised land. If you go back to Caprica and bring me the arrow, I will show us the way.

The Galactica is the leader of the fleet. Maybe the Hybrid was giving props to machine intelligence?

Thanks. Suppose that explains why I remember it that way. wink.gif Too bad Roslin burned what might perhaps have been the only copy in existence. biggrin.gif

My interpretation currently relies on the assumption that Pythia never named the new homeworld specifically, that Elosha's paraphrase was accurate at least in that regard (the homeworld wasnt named), that the assumption by Rolsin and others was that Earth was in fact the place Pythia meant, and finally that Roslin is in fact still the Dying Leader, though she no longer believes it.

I'm sure all the fundamentalist Gemenese have all that stuff memorized. Plus, I mean, it's like the Colonial Bible. They probably had copies in a drawer in every stateroom on Cloud 9. 'Course, that exploded........

The dying leader is just another joke.

not a joke but that something changed and the prophecies didnīt happen... If Hera hadnīt born, Roslin would have die long time ago.

Given Ron's love of Navy stuff, I'd put a dollar on Galactica.

Hi!

That was an error on my part not having noticed the duplicate entry. Thanks for spotting it! smile.gif
It's been corrected.

All my best,

WORD!

As Ron says... that is the planet that Cylons called it Earth. And I guess that is not the one we saw in Crossroads II.

Pythia led them to the promised land, that was called Earth. All the other speculations are laughable for the SIMPLE reason that Adama in the Mini calls that planet "Earth" and he said that it's from the scriptures AND the Fleet located it.

The person is Mexichick, and the thread was the "red erring" that was open just after Revelations. Correct citation is :"The constellations are at match, therefore the planet is Earth." and then she added sarcastically "one of the writer doesn't agree" to ridiculize all these speculations.

That's all folks!

I'm sure there are more copies of the 'Colonial Bible' elsewhere in the fleet. Whether or not they'll be used in upcoming epis remains to be seen.
