I read somewhere that this had become a backdoor pilot.... Did they decide not to make it into a series?

It's actually the second time they've attempted a pilot for this storyline, and as far as I know this second one didn't do well enough to justify ordering it to series either. The other one was in 2003. Even though both took liberties with the plot, after several viewings I have decided that the earlier version was the better of the two.

Well compared to most of the other made for TV movies they put on it was really good. Almost as good as they Alice movie they made.
