I had read somewhere that there might be a Dark Merlin in S5. Has anyone else heard of this and know this as fact?

If so, that would be very interesting...

Wishlist

1. Dark Merlin - so we get to see Colin channel his darker side (you just know he wants to)!
2. Like ShelterWolf mentioned - we need some medieval minstrels around (Brave Sir Robin comes to mind)!
3. Gwaine to shave his beard and cut his hair short.
4. Defensive spells - Merlin has to quest to find a book of defensive spells that form a protective shield around the body so that when he gets thrown backwards by Morgana/Mordred, Merlin can stop midair or bounce harmlessly off the wall! Ice spells vs fire spells! etc.

If there is a Dark Merlin that would be nice. On one of the Brit Boards, that subject was brought up. If that does happen then maybe the Merlin people really DO read the suggestions the viewers send in.

The show does whatever the producers and writers want and it seems these guys are using the fans to gauge what the show should be about.

I was thinking about this, if Season 5 is the last then the writers can either 1) come around full circle, that is tie everything up or 2) leave a lot dangling. I was wondering what others thought because to do the full circle bit, that would mean a Morgana redemptive arc, an Uther redemptive arc, and a Gwen redemptive arc.

And, things I'd like explained:

1) the Morgana-Morgause Paradox: Gorlois is not the biological father of either Morgana or Morgause according to events in S01-S03. She starts as the daughter of Gorlois and Vivienne. In S02, Morgause is introduced as the step sister meaning she shares one common parent with Morgana (either Gorlois or Vivienne). But, in S03, Morgana's found to be the daughter of Uther but still the step sister of Morgause. So, Morgana and Morgause have the same mother but different fathers. Uther cannot be Morgause's father since only Morgana has legitimate claim to the throne of Camelot. That means that Morgause and Morgana still have the same mother but Gorlois is not the father of Morgause.

2) Merlin trying to convince Arthur that magic can be a force for good especially if the magic bracelet making Gwen fall in love with Lancelot is revealed because Arthur could see that magic nearly ruined his life with Gwen and be convinced that magic is pure evil.

The producers have been backing of that "five year" thing a bit lately. When you originally pitch a show. you have to give an idea of how long you think the show could go. They had originally said five years because they thought they'd be lucky to get five years. Most shows don't go that long. But with season 4 being such a success and the show seeming to hit a new stride. So if destiny and the BBC allows, they're willing to go past Season 5

The Eoin Macken interview is interesting, too. So, he does social media the fans like he said he did and it was probably him on Twitter about that fanfic stuff. That means he, Katie and Angel probably did send those messages to those boards, then. Good to know but it would be interesting to see if the BBC funds the show for another year or more if they'll change their minds particularly Angel who said she's prepped that Season 5 was the end. But, some of the other boards where people from the show drop in ... It makes me wonder if the Merlin people are also reading this board, too.

So based on this thread we hope to see in Season 5:

4. Merlin Quests with the KORT to develop their characters
5. Merlin becoming even Darker and gaining in power and mastery of magic being tempted but not becoming EVIL
6. Aithusa being a servant of the Triple Goddess and serving Morgana allied with a Saxon force to help bring about Albion.
7. Merlin meeting others from legends or people based on them.
8. Redemptive arcs for Uther, Lancelot, Morgana, and Gwen
9. Queen Annis calling in a favor from Arthur because invaders under the control of Morgana/Mordred threaten Caerleon
10. Bayard or Lot or another king invoking the treaties signed by Uther to force Arthur alliance against invaders
11. The need for the kingdoms to unite under one leader against a common foe
12. Merlin locked in battle with aspects of the Triple Goddess --- the Maid, the Mother, the Crone--- prevailing and emerging as the great sorcercer
13. Arthur finding out early that Merlin had magic but Merlin wasn’t aware of it!
14. Arthur having to gain Merlin’s trust, learning Merlin’s value to Camelot, and appreciating him for it
15. Merlin going on Quests with or without Arthur to obtain magic and magical weapons for his battle
16. Merlin meets his Nemesis--- a player on the other side who shares the same background, skill, power, and knowledge as Merlin, with the same goals, but a different means to accomplish them.
17. Arthur meets his Nemesis--- a king and warrior who is like Arthur but opposes him
18. Merlin and/or Arthur creating challenges and tests for future generations of kings and knights
19. A love interest for Merlin or for the knights.
20. A Merlin Musical

I thought after the first episode we could check some things off the Season 5 wish list. And, there is an interview with Julian Jones at Den of Geek, and listening to that file, he makes it clear that he gets feedback about the story from some unknown forums.
