I am not talking about pornography or sexual content. Sometimes we forget about sensuality, exotic/erotic scenes, and beauty as part of a story. Two examples of misplaced nudity or sexual content might help. The first episode of SG-1 with total nudity, and the first episode of SGU, with sex in the closet. Both series failed to follow up on the theme, and it is fairly obvious that these teasers were a bit fraudulent. Both scenes were very sexual in content and irrelevant to the story, although they were very funny. A movie like Flesh Gordon is funny, and nudity is the story.

But what if SyFy were to go the naturist route? Scenes like skinny dipping, taking a shower, streaking, clothing 'malfunctions' and so on. No sexual activity, no close-ups, no nasty intent. Just simple everyday nudist camp sort of scene. This content could easily be integrated into a series, and done in a way that is tasteful and not offensive.

I understand that a book like mine can get away with nude scenes, and many TV programs would catch hell for it. But SyFy is liberal in every way, and even anti-religion in so many stories. With a dominant liberal audience, why not just tell the conservative anti-nude *** to just **** off. If you get 10 million more viewers, and drop 3 million; who cares about the complaints? Besides, the religious nuts often help a show with all the free publicity.

So, what show would benefit? Here is my partial list:

Survival shows set in the tropics, without a doubt.
Stargate movies, maybe.
Lost girl?
The Seeker, or castles and dragons style show, oh yes.

I leave it to you to add more ideas.

Not gonna happen.
They're owned by Universal, and they're not going to tolerate boycotts and all the other harassment such fare would bring down upon them.

And then there's this agency called the F.C.C.

There should be more nudity not less. It's nudity or pro wrestling which is worse?

Irrelevant, in this context. The FCC's regulatory powers extend only to over-the-air broadcasters, who transmit their programs via the publicly owned spectrum. In order to obtain the FCC's permission to use slivers of that spectrum, broadcasters agree to abide by the commission's rules, which include indecency standards. Cable, on the other hand, travels to American homes via privately built and maintained hardware, and thus is not subject to FCC regulation.

File that under something I didn't know. Up here, the CRTC handles both over-the-air and cable broadcasters, I had assumed it was the same in the US...

But many cable networks voluntarily follow many of the FCC rules. They feel doing so will keep the FCC from deciding to try and get congress to grant them authority over cable. While cable will push the envelope, it will be rare that they push past that barrier.

Will SyFy go nude?

If they did, then no matter what else they air that I enjoy watching, I would file a complaint with my cable company then stop watching syffy altogether.

SyFy already broadcasts anti-religious and naughty programming, and let's not forget the extreme violence. So why not just watch the shows you approve of? The point is whether or not they can financially survive if they don't become more liberal, as other stations are doing. Competition, not moral values, will drive them out of business.

Not all programming is anti-religious, naughty, or contains extreme violence. Programming like that I tolerate to a point or simply don't watch, but to incorporate nudity goes beyond tolerance. My decision, if it comes to that, to stop watching syffy will be a protest.

Everybody lies.

The notion of picking 1 times of the year to be decent to others is obscene because it's actually validating the notion of being miserable SOB finaly.

While I don't expect it to happen, I have to ask, what's wrong with a little bit of nudity? My son is old enough to buy a ticket to an NC-17 movie if he wants, but even when he was younger I would have much rather he see nudity than violence. We all came into this world nude, but this society has such a sick and twisted view of sex and the human body that it makes me furious.

Aside from the FCC "powers", darn I did learn something today, I thought I'd just come in look around, see who was doing what to whom aand leave. Little did i know or suspect that nudity would get all the "press it's getting". I guess if nudity was anti-religious or something, Adam and Eve would be wearing clothing from Brooks Brothers or somplace I can't spell or pronounce, that is if one is so inclined and one takes a "literal translation".Nudity, per se, is neither good or bad but how it depicted being exhibited. Just my opinion.Rant and rave all you like, it's still my opinion. As I paint as a hobby and use human femaale models, sometines nude, sometimes partially nude. I guess I get too much into what I am ddoinng to let my thoughts wander, you can let your thoughts take you where you please. A "nude", male oe female, is simply that, a state of being. One can simply ignore it, praise it or condmn it but knowing this culture, someone is surely going to praise it or d*m* it. Good luck folks.

NUDE PRO WRESTLING!!!

About 8 years ago (February 26th, 2004 to be exact) I was asked to part of an audience for a wrestling pilot project that the producers hoped they could sell to pay-per-view as an event. It was called Carmen Electra's Naked Women's Wrestling League, and much like the title says, it involved basically regular women's pro-wrestling, except nude. The arena was a set contructed in an old warehouse, it was filmed much like any movie or television series and the entire audience was made up of non-union background. We were payed in pizza....

Since you admit that you don't watch Lost Girl anyway, I can't imagine what difference it would make to you if they chose to move the show further in that direction (though there are no plans to do so).

My post wasn't directed towards Lost Girl per se, but towards Syfy in general if nudity were to be introduced to shows I already watch or new ones.

No, it was your typical mass produced chain pizza. The whole thing was pretty boring. I mostly did it as a favour to my agent. Give me sci-fi or period pieces anyday...
